Low Down

(Jeff Preiss, 2014)

with Robb Stey, Rose Wagner Theatre, 1/20/14

Gorgeous and emotional, with achingly vulnerable performances from John Hawkes and Elle Fanning – but ultimately, too cryptic and elliptical for its own good.  It’s a movie about music and silence, and I can respect that, but it needs a little more focus.  The ending underscores the problem; it’s basically a complete blank.
